TUA Debuts Torale® Luxe Fabric Line
Luxury Leather Alternative—Greener, More Durable

NEW YORK—October, 2008
TUA introduces Torale® Luxe, a luxury leather alternative.
The maker of Ultrasuede® has created a supple, pliant fabric which emulates
characteristics of the finest leathers. Available in 46 solids and eight stunning
metallics colors — colors that range from a shimmery champagne to the deep,
rich color of Blue Gem.
“Consumers and designers want the stylish, sophisticated
look of leather, but not the environmental or ethical consequences of using animal
skins,” says Des McLaughlin, Executive Director of TUA. Thanks to the advanced
science of Toray Industries, which produces Ultrasuede® and Torale® Luxe,
they can have the look, comfort and flexibility of leather plus greater durability
in a product that better fits today’s green-minded attitudes.
The high-performance luxury of Torale® Luxe is ideal for upholstered furniture for the home and office, for fashion accessories and footwear, inside automobiles, RVs, yachts
as well as airplane interiors where lighter-weight materials is often required.
Torale® Luxe can be mixed and matched with the entire line of Ultrasuede® products,
from the enormous palette of Ultrasuede® solids to the Dimensions line of
embossed textures and patterns.
Designers and manufacturers will appreciate that
Torale® Luxe can be stacked for cutting, which greatly reduces waste and
creates greater yield per square foot, a significant economic advantage.
The internal layer of Torale Luxe is made through an environmentally friendly process
that not only reduces CO2 emissions but also provides softness, body and substance.
The external surface of the fabric is treated with a special dry process that
eliminates the need for harmful chemicals or the recapturing of byproducts.
In addition, the construction of both Torale® Luxe and its backcloth meet industry
needs for stretch and recovery - thick enough for industrial use, but versatile
enough for the fashion, home and transportation applications, where luxury is
expected.
Characteristics of Torale® Luxe include a rich, durable grain;
full color range; fire-retardance; colorfastness; resistance to abrasion, sagging,
crocking and shrinking; and easy cleaning with mild soap and water.
